Story

Just over two years ago my uncle Terry was diagnosed with bone cancer. In 2016 my now mother-in-law Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer and soon after that the father to Jenny, Joe, received the news that he too had various types of cancer. To add further heartbreak to the family less than 6 months later my wife Jess’s aunty Suzie found out she had terminal cancer, while also dealing with the health decline and passing of her own mother, Marge. So, sadly in the space of 18 months we lost Terry, Joe and Suzie to cancer.

The inspiration that comes from our families loss is knowing how hard they all fought and seeing Jenny beat this most horrendous and savage disease. Our togetherness and unbreakable bond helped us deal with the situation as best we could.

Back in July I set myself the challenge to complete the Melbourne half marathon, which is this Sunday, which then led me to begin a grueling training regime to get my body ‘running’ fit and to ensure I put my best foot forward in support of cancer research.

This will be the most brutal physical challenge I have ever undertaken but it will pale in comparison to the battle so many have with cancer. I am doing this to raise money for Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) who target ALL TYPES of cancer and will use the funds to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and technologies that enable early detection – ultimately working to save lives by saving time. If it wasn't for this type of work my (now) mother-in-law would not have been at the wedding of Jess and I and that is why we are so grateful of all the donations that have come in and any that are to follow.

Please support me and the ACRF by making a donation to my page, a little or a lot, it doesn’t matter how much.

Thank you for your support and helping to make a difference.

Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF)

At Australian Cancer Research Foundation, we know that only brilliant ideas can tackle something as big as cancer. That is why since 1984, we have given scientists the technology, equipment and infrastructure they need for pioneering research.

From small vaccines to big machines our funding has supported some of the biggest outcomes in cancer research, across Australia. ACRF supporters have backed landmark projects such as; the development of the world’s first cancer vaccine (for cervical cancer), the establishment of a precision medicine program working towards the goal of zero deaths from childhood cancer and the creation of the innovative MRI-Linac which will improve patient outcomes and reduce the trauma associated with radiation therapy.

By funding research that seeks to progress and transform the way we prevent, detect and treat ALL cancers, we are committed to our vision of one day reaching a world without cancer.
