RUN FOR AUTISM 2017 by Speech Pathology Students' Society Melbourne University
Story
The Speech Pathology Students' Society of Melbourne University has registered a team at the Melbourne Marathon Festival 2017 to raise funds for Amaze, in order to support people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, as well as their families/supporters.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that typically presents in early childhood. It can affect a person's ability to interact socially with others. Common characteristics of autism may include repetitive behaviour and difficulties communicating verbally and non-verbally (e.g. using eye-contact or gestures). Each person with autism will have different strengths and weaknesses in their communicative ability.
Amaze is a fantastic organisation that raises awareness and influences positive change for people on the autism spectrum and their families/supporters. Amaze provides independent, credible information and resources to individuals, families, professionals, government and the wider community.
We'll be participating in all the events at the festival from the 3km walk to the Full Marathon and we'd love your support! Thank you!!

Activity
Amaze
Amaze aims to create an inclusive society that offers every autistic person the opportunity to meaningfully participate and contribute. We do this by raising awareness and influencing positive change among educators, the government and the wider community. Formed in 1967 by a group of parents struggling to find resources to support their child; Amaze has grown to become the Peak body for autism in Victoria annually providing emotional support, credible information and practical tools to over 13,000 families and individuals on their autism journey from pre-diagnosis and beyond.
