Story
Hi All,
In support of StreetSmart, I will be participating in the 2017 Melbourne Marathon alongside my ASIC friends.
Why did I decide to do this? Over 105,000 Australians experience homelessness every night. Running, walking, skipping (and maybe crawling) my way through a 21.1km course is a simple task compared to the challenges these Australians endure every day. By participating in the marathon, ASIC for StreetSmart hopes to increase awareness of the physical and mental challenges homeless people face and raise $5000 for StreetSmart to assist in the battle to combat homelessness.
StreetSmart is a great Australian charity that provides much needed support and funds to grassroots community organisations and projects providing services to the homeless. Projects and organisations they support include:
• Free legal centres for those experiencing homelessness;
• Women's shelters;
• 'NEST' – A program supporting young parents and their children with accommodation and long term support;
• 'Orange Sky Laundry' – A free mobile laundry services for the homeless;
• And many more! To date, Street Smart has funded 1,418 projects and supported 506 organisations.
Donating to ASIC for StreetSmart is an easy way you can take action against homelessness.

We do this in a unique way, seeking out and supporting grassroots homeless services. 100% of donations received from the public through our events and online fundraising are distributed to have maximum impact across the community.
